Water Saving and Wise Use is a Religious, National and Moral Duty
Jordan suffers from water sources scarcity, especially in the light of increasing population and unprecedented construction growth, the increased standard of living as well as the growth in the different economical sectors. Such expansion in many fronts increase demand of water and stresses further the limitation of the water renewed sources.
Miyahuna provides water and waste water services in Amman with water sources heavily dependent on surface waters from King Abdullah Canal and Wadi Al-Mujab and ground water from multiple wells. These sources are supplied by the rainwater which fluctuates from one year to another, thus putting a big challenge before Miyahuna and makes us obligated to apply a strict program to fairly distribute water to the subscribers.
Below are some information, facts and guidelines provided by Miyahuna to help you use the water wisely:
It is necessary to conduct periodical maintenance to the internal network installation in your house fixing any leak.
It is necessary to conduct periodical maintenance to the ground and upper tanks and ensure the tank floating valve is operational.
It is necessary to clean the water tanks and the home wells on a yearly basis to ensure clean water for consumption.
When installing water saving devices at the water faucets at home, the water invoice will decrease by about 35%.
Leaving the water tap open when brushing teeth consumes 5 liters of water each time.
Put the vegetables and fruits in a big container to wash them in stead of directly washing them under the open tap. After that, such water could be used for plants irrigation.
Make sure to close the tap very well to avoid dripping.
Don’t use the washing machine until it is full of the laundry.
Don’t leave the water tap open when washing household appliances.
Take a quick short shower.
Washing the car by the water hose consumes around 300-500 liters of water, while using the bucket consumes 20 liters only.
Use the irrigation sprinkler instead of the hose to irrigate the garden.
Watering the garden early morning or after the sunset minimizes the water evaporation by about 30%.
Use the broom to clean the home entrance and tracks instead of washing by water.
The Holy Quran forbids extravagance in many verses. Allah says:
"Eat and drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allah) likes not Al-Musrifin (those who waste by extravagance)." Sûrat Al-A‘râf : 31.
